When people think of flights from Tunis, Paris, Lyon or Frankfurt usually come to mind. Yet from October 2025 to September 2026, Tunis-Carthage's busiest route was Tunis – Tripoli Mitiga: 5,653 flights, ahead of Paris-Orly (5,217). With Benghazi and Misrata, Libya accounts for almost 8,700 flights a year, and Algeria for about 3,200. Here is what the data says about their punctuality.

Libya: six Libyan airlines with similar results

Airline Flights (Oct 2025 – Sep 2026) On time (≤ 15 min) 3 hours late or more Cancelled
Medsky Airways 1,178 67% 1.3% 1.4%
Buraq Air 2,166 63% 4.0% 2.6%
Libyan Wings 2,610 62% 3.6% 0.9%
Berniq Airways 1,705 60% 3.5% 6.3%
Libyan Airlines 685 50% 7.2% 35%
Afriqiyah Airways 321 37% 15% 9.7%

Flights between Tunisia and Libya are almost all operated by Libyan airlines. Four of them are close together, at around six flights out of ten on time, with Medsky Airways slightly ahead. Two points deserve attention:

  • Cancellations. More than one in three Libyan Airlines flights listed in the OACA schedules was cancelled, including 74 of its 102 flights to Benghazi. Berniq Airways also cancels more often than average (6%).
  • Very long delays. Afriqiyah Airways, which operates few flights, had 15% of its flights three hours late or more, mostly on Misrata.
Route Flights On time Cancelled
Tunis – Tripoli Mitiga 5,653 63% 217
Tunis – Benghazi 2,231 61% 207
Tunis – Misrata 753 53% 52

On Tunis – Tripoli, four airlines share the route: Medsky Airways (69% on time), Buraq Air (63%), Libyan Wings (62%) and Libyan Airlines (50%). On Tunis – Benghazi, Buraq Air (62%) and Berniq Airways (60%) are level.

Algeria: Nouvelair and Air Algérie ahead

Airline Flights On time 3 hours late or more
Nouvelair 722 64% 2.5%
Air Algérie 1,645 59% 2.0%
Tunisair 827 30% 8.1%
Route Airline Flights On time
Tunis – Algiers Nouvelair 427 60%
Air Algérie 1,447 58%
Tunisair 567 26%
Tunis – Oran Nouvelair 272 71%
Tunisair 260 40%

Air Algérie operates most flights between Tunis and Algiers, with punctuality close to Nouvelair's. Tunisair is well behind: barely one flight in four on time between Tunis and Algiers, and almost one in ten three hours late or more. Cancellations are rare on Algeria (14 in a year).

Opposite seasons

Period Libya flights on time Algeria flights on time
October 2025 – March 2026 52% 60%
April – September 2026 69% 47%

The two markets move in opposite directions. Flights to Libya are much more punctual in summer, and almost all their cancellations happened in winter (406 from October to March, against 70 from April to September). Flights to Algeria, on the other hand, get worse in summer, when traffic grows (up to 378 flights in August against 174 in March), like all flights at Tunis-Carthage.

What it means for you

  • To Tripoli, there is plenty of choice: if the timing suits you, Medsky Airways, Buraq Air and Libyan Wings have comparable results. Check your flight's status the day before on the Tunis-Carthage departures page, especially with an airline that cancels often.
  • To Algiers or Oran in summer, allow a margin, and choose Nouvelair or Air Algérie if you can.
  • To meet someone arriving from Libya or Algeria, follow the Tunis-Carthage arrivals live.

Method

The figures come from the schedules published by OACA for Tunis-Carthage, Djerba-Zarzis and Monastir airports, collected every 30 minutes by Tunisia Airports from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026 (departures and arrivals). A flight is "on time" when it took off or landed at most 15 minutes late; for a departure, taxiing to the runway is included. Punctuality percentages only count flights that actually took off or landed; cancellations are those reported by OACA, as a share of all scheduled flights. Routes with fewer than 100 flights per airline are not detailed. Tunisia Airports is an independent website, not affiliated with OACA or with the airlines mentioned.
