Which month to fly? Punctuality at Tunisian airports month by month

Summer is often seen as the hardest time to fly in Tunisia. That's true, but it isn't the only one. We followed 107,400 flights at Tunis-Carthage, Djerba-Zarzis and Monastir over thirteen months, from September 2025 to September 2026, and calculated the share of on-time flights each month.

The best months: April and May
In spring, two flights out of three are on time, delays of more than an hour are rarest (9–10%) and traffic is moderate. This is when all three airports are most reliable, Monastir included (73–75%).
The difficult months: August… and winter
- August is the busiest month of the year (almost 12,000 flights) and one of the least punctual: 54% on time, only 47% at Tunis-Carthage.
- December and January are almost as bad, although traffic is half as heavy. January 2026 was the worst month of the period: one flight in two on time, one in five more than an hour late, and 193 cancelled flights, the highest of the thirteen months.
- Monastir suffers particularly in winter (49% in December and January), while it is among the most punctual airports in spring.
Djerba, reliable all year round
Djerba-Zarzis stays above 64% every month and exceeds 70% in nine months out of thirteen. Tunis-Carthage, which handles more than half of the flights, never goes above 62%.
An improvement over one year
In September 2026, 61% of flights were on time, against 54% in September 2025. The progress is clear at Tunis-Carthage (from 47% to 54%) and Monastir (from 60% to 67%). It remains to be seen whether it holds through the winter.
Practical tips
- If your dates are flexible, aim for April or May; June, October and November follow (61–63% on time).
- In August and in winter, allow a comfortable margin for any connection, and follow your flight live on the departures and arrivals pages.
- In December and January, the share of cancelled flights is five to six times higher than in May: check your flight status before leaving for the airport.
- To find the most punctual airline for your trip, see the page for your route or your airline.
Method
Schedules published by OACA for Tunis-Carthage, Djerba-Zarzis and Monastir, collected every 30 minutes by Tunisia Airports from September 2025 to September 2026 (departures and arrivals). A flight is "on time" when it took off or landed at most 15 minutes late; the published times are take-off and landing times. Only flights that actually took off or landed are counted; cancellations are those reported by the airport. Tunisia Airports is an independent website, not affiliated with OACA.
